Athletic Participation Policies
Random Drug Testing
Grades 9-12 athletes and those requesting parking permits must complete the district’s Random Drug Test form via Rank One’s Register My Athlete platform.
Training Room
Athletes must dress in appropriate gear daily, regardless of injury. Injured athletes should attend treatment after meeting with their team and be in school-issued sport-specific gear. The athletic trainers return athletes to their teams after rehab.
Practice Expectation
Use athletic periods and practices efficiently with clear goals. Athletes should dress uniformly, be punctual, and present. Make-up work is required for missed practices. Coaches must minimize wasted time.
Quitting a Sport
Once a student-athlete has participated in the first official day of practice for a sport, they are considered part of that team. Quitting a sport after the first contest will result in the following:
The student will not be eligible to participate in the next sport until after the first contest of that next sport’s season (per UIL guidelines – 15-day rule).
A required meeting with the Head Coach and/or Campus Coordinator will take place to review the decision.
Athletes may be required to complete conditioning and other expectations during this time.
Note: Quitting during the off-season will not result in a penalty.
Disciplinary Action – Vaping/Nicotine
Any student-athlete caught in possession of or using nicotine or vaping devices will receive a consequence as detailed in the TISD Code of Conduct as per district guidelines. Additional consequences may apply within the athletic department, including possible suspension or removal from the program.
Academic Probation
Academic progress is expected of all student-athletes. A student who falls below academic eligibility will:
Be subject to campus-determined interventions, which may include tutoring, study hall, or limited athletic participation.
Must regain eligibility per UIL rules to resume full participation.
Returning from DAEP (30+ Day Placement)
Student-athletes returning from a 30-day or longer DAEP placement are not guaranteed re-entry into athletics. A review process will include:
Meeting with the Athletic Coordinator or Head Coach
Evaluation of the student’s offense and behavior
Signing of a contract outlining expectations
Completion of required conditioning prior to rejoining team activities
Attendance at athletic events is a privilege, not a right.
